As a kid, I wanted to be a Disney princess and always identified with Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Because I love the movie, I wanted to create a Beauty and the Beast modern day lookbook!
In Beauty and the Beast, the townspeople referred to Belle as a “peculiar girl” with a “dreamy far off look and her nose stuck in a book.” I can just picture little Nunzia lugging a bag of checked out library books into her bedroom. Also, who could forget about all those cringe-worthy diary entries from 10 year-old me! Ahh, childhood.
Princess Belle also had impeccable style. I mean, that yellow ballgown. Ugh, to die for!
Unfortunately, we can’t all attend fancy balls and dance with hairy princes. But we can make some modifications to suit a more current time period….and also, real life. With a few tweaks here and there, it’s totally possible to be a a modern day Disney Princess!
Beauty and the Beast Modern Day Lookbook
“Little Town” Dress
One of Belle’s hobbies included visiting her town’s local market. Although she had to put up with some gossipy villagers, Gaston (gag), and his many admirers, Belle managed to find her fave book, the one that she already read twice! She rocked a simple blue dress and looked fabulous while throwing some subtle shade at Gaston!
Belle’s market would probably be what we know as our 21st century mall. Keeping it simple was definitely an important factor in selecting the first outfit, since Belle typically opts for more understated looks.
Instead of a dress, I chose overalls and a white basic tee for my modern “little town” inspired outfit. Also, I replaced Belle’s bow and added a blue headband as a finishing touch.
I was able to frolic around the mall in this comfy ensemble, just like Belle would in a bookstore. Full disclosure, while frolicking, I did receive quite a few stares. But that’s okay….I felt like a Disney Princess!

Green Library Dress
For my second look, I chose Belle’s green a-line gown, which she wore when The Beast presented the castle’s wondrous library. She looked super elegant in this long-sleeved, classic dress while marveling at the thousands of books now at her disposal.
I wanted to stay true to that dreamy, fairy-tale like feel. Rather than a gown made to wear at an 18th century library, I picked out this casual dress perfect for an afternoon trip to the coffeeshop.
To accessorize, I added a pink floral ring and earthy bracelets. Whether you’re reading a romance novel, sipping on an iced coffee, or browsing online, you’ll be giving everyone some serious Belle vibes!

Belle’s Yellow Ball Gown
“Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme…” I’m already thinking about that darling closing scene when Belle and The Beast dance together as everyone looks on. Belle’s romantic dress is just as iconic. She’s wearing an off-the-shoulder yellow ballgown with romantic ruffled detailing.
Although not many of us will be going to fancy balls anytime soon (don’t mind me, just casually sobbing in a corner), we all deserve to feel like a princess!
I was on a mission to find a dress that’d stay true to Belle’s aesthetic. Of course, I had to make a few alterations so that it’d be easy to wear on a night out!
Three hours of roaming around the mall later, I stumbled upon this gorgeous fit and flare dress at Mandee’s. Later, I decided on gold floral earrings to highlight the dress’s vibrant color.

Well, that’s it for my Beauty and The Beast Belle Modern Day Lookbook. 🙂 As a Disney lover, I had so much fun delving into this topic and hope that you enjoyed this post.
So, who’s your favorite Disney character? Also, which character do you think has the best style?
I love this idea! I’m a Disney fanatic and I’m all about princess-inspired fashion. My favorite princesses are Jasmine, Belle, and Rapunzel (though they all hold a special place in my heart–I went through different phases as a kid)….and my favorite heroine is DEFINITELY Esmeralda. She doesn’t get enough love.
Belle’s fashion is iconic. I also loved the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, and all the costumes in the film!
Disney is so much fun! 💖💛 I totally understand going through different phases. When I was little, I went through a Cinderella phase. Then I was so into Ariel, my 5th birthday party was The Little Mermaid theme. Then I loved Belle a lot and I’ve always identified a lot with her. My favorite princesses to this day are still Belle and Ariel ✨
Yessss, Esmeralda doesn’t get enough love. She’s such a great Disney character. I’m not sure if Meg from Hercules is considered a princess, but I never thought she got enough love either. Now I just want to watch both movies 😂
Right?! I feel like they BOTH should be princesses. Especially if characters like Mulan are still in the Princess lineup, even though they aren’ *technically* royalty.
Gorgeous yellow dress!
Thank you!!! <3 :)
