Hi there! As you know, many posts on my blog focus on self-care and mental health. And community care is a vital part of self-care. Looking out for each other helps us thrive as a collective!
We should give back to our community and help our neighbors, friends, coworkers, family members, and the people around us. It can look like sharing your resources, organizing, listening to your loved ones, donating, and volunteering in your area. Weâre working together to make the world a better place! This post lists more ways to do community care!
I made this page for my blog as a space for community care efforts. I will update it as time goes on with links to charities, mental health info, content you can share with others, and more!
There’s a form at the bottom of the page for any feedback you want to share or community care efforts youâd like to see on this page.
Everyone should have access to mental health care.
Here are some good resources for mental health like ways to get cheaper therapy, graphics you can share, videos, and more. If youâre struggling with your mental health, please know that there is help available out there.
- Open Path: As a member, you can get affordable mental health services between $40 and $70 per therapy session. To cut costs, you can also see student interns for $30 per session.
- Psychology Today: Has a helpful directory where you can enter your zip code or city and look for therapists based on your needs. This is how I found my therapist after a long search!
- NIH: Offers a great learning hub of content to share and raise mental health awareness!
Mental Health Orgs:
These are some nonprofits and programs that focus on mental health.
- The Trevor Project: This is a nonprofit that helps LGBTQ+ young people and provides 24/7 crisis and suicide prevention efforts. They have counselors who you can call, chat, or text when you need support.
- Sista Afya Community Care: This nonprofit was made as a way to help with the mental health inequity that Black women and girls in Chicago face. They offer free and low-cost ways to get support like therapy, classes, and more.
- International OCD Foundation: The nonprofit aims to change the lives of people with OCD by increasing access to the right treatment. Their goal is to help end stigma and teach the public about OCD through conferences and programs.
How to Help Palestine:
There is a humanitarian crisis going on in Gaza right now. Millions of Palestinians have been displaced and over 40,000 have died. If you can, please donate to one of these vetted charities. Also, stay up to date, share any info you know, and speak to the people around you. Your voice is powerful!
- Doctors without Borders: A charity that offers medical care and relief to the people of Gaza. This looks like surgical and wound care, mental health care, vaccines, and much more. They are also calling for a ceasefire.
- Palestine Children’s Relief Fund: They give free medical care to kids in the middle East who are injured or ill. You can donate to their Gaza Relief and Recovery. By doing so, you will help them bring medical supplies, food, clean water, and more to the area.
- Action Against Hunger: There are deadly levels of hunger in Gaza right now. This charity brings food, water, bedding, and more to Gaza. Their goal is to end hunger all over the world. They provide aid to 55 countries like Congo, Sudan, Yemen, Jordan, and more.
Reproductive Health Care:
- Planned Parenthood: They offer sexual and reproductive health care for all people in the U.S., along with sex education. They work to lower the costs of STD tests, cancer screenings, office visits, and more. With the overturning of Roe v Wade, their work is vital.
- The Period Collective: This nonprofit brings period products and kits to shelters, schools, and more. Their goal is to provide dignity to all people in Chicago. What’s cool is it’s run by all volunteers!
Voting Tools and Info:
Voting is a way to advocate for yourself and the people around you. Itâs one of the crucial tools we have in our community care toolkit! To help you stay up to date about election season, here are some great websites.
CHECK IF YOUâRE REGISTED TO VOTE!
Vote.gov, Vote.org, and Ballotpedia.org are great sites to check out!
You can do things like get election reminders, see whatâs on your ballot, find out how to vote by mail, know your rights, and more.
Make sure to lend a helping hand to those around you! Look into places in your area that do good work like food pantries, shelters, libraries, hospitals, public schools, animal shelters, nursing homes, and more. You can donate or volunteer to give back. Even small gestures can make a big impact!
