On Sunday, Alejandro and I looked up new recipes for the future and went grocery shopping. We mostly shop at Mariano’s since it’s super close to home. We’ll buy groceries for the week, and stop by mid-week if we need any extra ingredients for dinner. I wanted to share our grocery haul with and talk about some of my favorite finds this week. 💕
Grocery Haul
Go-To Products
Breakfast Foods: I’ve been so into breakfast foods lately, which would confuse 17-year-old Nunzia! When I was younger and even during college, I skipped breakfast way too often.
Now I can’t start my day without a bowl of cereal, oatmeal, or breakfast smoothie! I’ve been LOVING Chobani yogurt. It’s tasty, healthy, and contains three types of probiotics.
My favorite Chobani product by far is their Blueberry Greek Yogurt, with real blueberries and jam! I also like their vanilla flavored yogurt, which I use for banana smoothies.
When it comes to cereal, I’m pretty open to whatever, but craved Honey Nut Cheerios this week! We also bought more oatmeal (Maple and Brown Sugar)!
Fruits and Veggies: Of course, we had to get a variety of fruits and vegetables! For veggies this week, we bought spinach and frozen peas. Usually for dinner, we’ll make broccoli, carrots, mixed veggies, and spinach.
Lately, we’ve been trying to cook dishes with a lot more veggies, and limit meats as much as possible. As for fruits, we both enjoy apples, bananas, and blueberries.
Thursday’s Dinner: Yesterday’s dinner was so yummy! Alejandro made Italian roasted salmon with rice and spinach. We bought Mariano’s fresh salmon and it was such an easy, hassle-free dish! Typically, we’ll eat fish about once a week, whether it’s cod, salmon, or tuna. I think out of all the fish dishes we’ve tried, this one is the tastiest!
Tortillas and 12 Grain Bread: Several months ago, Alejandro and I cooked a potatoes, carrots, peas, and ground beef medley. Ever since then, we’ve been enjoying the medley with tortillas and refried beans.
We’ll usually stock our place with a couple bags of tortillas just in case. I’m a big fan of quesadillas, and every now and again, we’ll cook chorizo and eggs for breakfast. As for bread, we both like 12 grain, wheat, and Italian varieties.
New Finds
Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sauce: When I cook pasta, sometimes I’ll make my own meat sauce with Red Gold crushed tomatoes, Contadina tomato paste, and ground beef. I’ve been searching for a good instant option, but never cared too much for most canned sauces. I stumbled upon Rao’s Homemade marinara sauce and decided to give it a try!
The sauce tastes authentic and it’s so easy to cook pasta during the week now! I’ll just boil some penne or spaghetti, heat up the sauce, and I’m done!
Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper: I always heard about Hamburger Helper growing up, and have been curious about this American classic.
On the back of the box, it says the only other ingredients needed are 1 lb. of ground beef, 1/2 cups of hot water, and two cups of milk. We’ll be eating this for dinner tonight, so updates to come!
Favorite Snacks
Funyuns and Popcorn: On to the snacks, woohoo! We bought Funyuns, which are top 5 when it comes to chip brands for me. They just remind me of home. Growing up, I lived near a corner store that sold chips, drinks, and snacks.
On Fridays, my friends and I would visit the store after school and buy snacks. Almost all of the chips were 25 cents a bag! I’d buy a bag of Funyuns along with a soda or Marinela Sponch Marshmallow Cookies.
Alejandro and I couldn’t forget about popcorn! Last Friday, we were watching a movie, and noticed we ran out of popcorn! We decided to run to the gas station at 12am, but made sure to buy a box of popcorn during our grocery trip!
Snapple Tea: I treated myself to a refreshing bottle of tea! Peach flavored Snapple tea is my go-to when it comes to sweet drinks.
Milano Cookies and Nutella: Last, but definitely not least are Milano cookies and Nutella. If I don’t have some Nutella spread in my pantry, I feel a little bummed (call it the Italian in me). Also, Milano cookies are the best and go really well with a refreshing glass of milk!
I hope that you enjoyed this little grocery haul, lovelies! I’d like to write a more in-depth “shopping for two” grocery haul eventually! 💓
What are some of your go-to groceries for the week? Also, have you found any new products at the grocery store recently that you really enjoy?
You defo can’t go wrong with Cheerios!! Amazing post girl! X
Thanks, darling!! 💖x And so true, they’re healthy and delicious!!
Damn.. just looking at that spinach has made me really crave some. Think I need more iron in my diet! I’ve always wanted to try Funyuns.. they seem so American, lol. We just call them onion rings in the UK, and they’re delish too. Gotta love a good cornershop that stocks all the appropriate snacks! Cute post 🙂 you guys are so healthy, it’s great to see as I’ve been UNHEALTHY for the pas few days, lol.
Spinach is so yummy. When I was younger, I was a little anemic, and the doctor always recommended spinach. Still one of my fav veggies! Also, Funyuns are so good omg!! Crunchy, delicious, and you’re right so super American!! 😂😂They’re my go-to chip of choice….aside from Hot Cheetos of course lol We’ve been trying our best when it comes to eating healthier, but it’s so hard sometimes!! Ice cream and cheeseburgers are so darn tasty hehehe!
Haha, that is very true. Healthier eating can be tough at times, lol. And I’ve never had Hot Cheetos! They sound interesting. Oh yep, the anaemia caught me too – think I still am?
I used to love Hamburger Helper as a kid. I think you guys will enjoy it! 😄
We ended up making it and it was so good!! We both really liked it! x Will definitely buy it again for dinner!
I absolutely love Mariano’s! And el Milagro yellow corn tortillas are a staple in my family!! Chicago has the best tortillas because every time I travel, I could never find tortillas by “El Milagro” and I was always disappointed, since there really only sold throughout the Chicagoland area, but they’re my favorite!
Omg, I had no idea that El Milagro tortillas are pretty much only sold in the Chicago-land area!! I guess we’re super lucky then!! 😉 hehe!! They’re sooo good. We love the yellow corn tortillas!! Oh my gosh, even just like a little bit of cheese, beans, and the tortillas. That’s all I need!! Now I’m just getting hungry 😂
Gotta love Nutella, I also have to have some all the time because I always crave nutella on tost. It’s easy, quick and delicious, unfortunately not healthy at all but who cares when it’s irresistible. xx
So true!! 😂I love having Nutella with strawberries!! It’s so delicious! Also, Nutella goes surprisingly well with bananas lol Toast, Nutella, and a glass of milk is the best though! xx
love honey nut cheerios & the peach snapple is one of my faves! 🙌🏻
Same here!! 😊The other Snapple tea flavors are good, but I always reach for the peach flavor hehe! 💛
