Hi, Lovelies! đź’• Wow, what a weekend! I mentioned on Friday that I was going to see Mat Kearney in concert that night. After a couple of days, I’m still over the moon about my experience. I wanted to share my experience + my concert outfit of the day!
My mom and I first heard Mat’s song “Nothing Left to Lose” on the radio years ago and I’ve been keeping up with his music since then. When we found out he was coming to Chicago, both she and I knew we had to go see him live! It ended up being a fun mother-daughter date!
The night was unforgettable. There’s something so special about music because it brings people together!
Mat Kearney Concert + Outfit of the Day
Mat performed at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. It was a really cold night but I didn’t even notice at the time because of my excitement. The city bustled with traffic, restaurants, and chattering. 🙂 It was nothing short of magical. We raced towards the the theater’s glowing marquee, which displayed Mat Kearney’s name in bold, black letters.
The theater had this incredible vintage feel, it was like being in a fairytale.
I adored its large, arched windows, elegant chandeliers, and winding staircases. We got there a little early so I explored the first floor. People were hanging out in the lounge area and sipping on beer and mixed drinks. The environment felt light and joyful.
As my mom grabbed us some drinks, I even captured a sweet shot of a couple standing in the middle of the dance floor. So precious! Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there.
We were still lounging around and I noticed that Mat was selling some of his merch on the first floor. I ended up waiting to buy a shirt online the next day, but the selection looked super cute! 🙂 Patiently waiting until I get my t-shirt in the mail. 💗 I’m already thinking of rocking my tee with a pair of denim overalls this spring!
Another twenty minutes or so passed and we made our way upstairs to take our seats.
There was a cute couple sitting in front of us and they brought their kids to the show. They seemed like such a loving family and talked cheerfully to one another throughout the entire night. So sweet! I told my mom that we should definitely bring my little brother, Jonathan to a concert when he gets older and she agreed!
An elderly couple sat on our left and a few 20-something year olds chuckled and chatted behind us. I smiled at the thought of perfect strangers–with different stories and backgrounds–sitting together on a Friday night and listening to incredible music. 🙂 My mom and I took a few selfies and shared stories about our week. Before we knew it, the show was about to start!
The theater got dark and Mat’s opening act, filous came out. After filous finished his set, Andrew Belle played some of his new music. Both of the artists were lovely and I’m so happy that I was able to discover them through Mat’s concert. 💖
There was an intermission and the crowd started to cheer. Mat ran to the front of the stage and started strumming on his guitar!
I teared up way too many times throughout his set! Mat has this contagious energy about him and it’s so easy to tell that he genuinely loves performing. He sang with his whole heart and felt the music. At one point, he even jumped into the crowd and brought a fan on stage! She must have been about 12 and they jumped around and sang together!
Mat played some newer songs from his EP, like “Face to Face” and older music from his City of Black and White album. Just before the end of the show, he even sang a song that reminds me of my grandpa, who passed away a year and a half ago. I couldn’t help but cry. I believe this song helped heal me and it was like a catharsis for me to be able to hear it live. Finally, he played “Where Are We Gonna Go From Here?” and his classic, “Nothing Left to Lose.” The entire audience sang along and that was a moment I’ll never forget. Best concert ever! 🙂
Other Highlights:
I can’t forget the food!
Before Mat’s concert, my mom and I dined at Los Comales in New Lenox. I had a taco dinner (chicken and steak tacos). My favorite!
Outfit of the Day!
For the concert, I chose a black lacy shirt from Forever 21 and paired it with high waisted jeans from Charlotte Russe and a polka dot handbag by LULU. A sweet look! 🙂
Thank you so much for reading my story time, lovelies. I hope that you enjoyed! 💕 Have you been to any concerts recently? What did you think of your experience? Also, what did you think of my concert outfit of the day?
