Hey, lovelies! 💓I hope you’re having a great Wednesday! For today’s post, I’m taking y’all back in time to the 90’s with some iconic The Nanny outfits! Here comes the nostalgia! 1990-1999 was an age of landlines and AOL messenger, unforgettable fashion staples, Lisa Frank notebooks, and best of all….popular hit sitcoms! Out of all the glorious comedies that aired back in the 90’s, The Nanny holds a special place in my heart.
I wasn’t even born yet when The Nanny made its official television debut in 1993. Still, just thinking of the popular show brings me back to summer nights growing up. Back in the 2000’s, Nick at Nite used to air reruns of The Nanny and I almost never missed an episode. Sometimes on school nights, I’d also sneak in a couple of episodes (even though I should have definitely been asleep)!
A couple of months back, I saw a viral meme on Facebook about Fran Fine that inspired this post. It said something like, “Fran would have had 4 million followers on Instagram and a Fashion Nova sponsorship today.” Basically, yep.
Fran has always been (and still is!) one of my biggest fashion role models. Ms. Fine was never afraid to be herself and wore clothes that made her happy. After seeing the Facebook meme, I knew immediately that I needed to pay homage to “the flashy girl from Flushing!”
Before talking about some of Nanny Fine’s most iconic looks, I want to give a shoutout to Shan Brown from @whatfranwore! Please check her out, y’all! She created an Instagram account dedicated to Fran’s The Nanny outfits, and it’s absolutely incredible! All of my recreations are based on her photos!
On to the LOOKS! YAY! I’m so excited right now!!
Recreating Fran Fine’s The Nanny Outfits
Look #1 — Mini Skirts, Tights, and Turtlenecks
For the first look, I chose one of Fran’s most memorable The Nanny outfits–a red turtleneck and Moschino checkered skirt. This whole ensemble practically screams Nanny Fine! In fact, according to an article from Glamour magazine’s website, “One of Drescher’s signature looks was a statement miniskirt, coordinating top, big hair, and heels.”
Back in July, The Today Show interviewed Fran Drescher–star and co-creator of The Nanny. She told Today that Nanny Fine’s style was both “sexy and sweet, all at the same time.” Throughout the series, Fran had such a lighthearted presence, infectious laugh, and didn’t take herself too seriously. On top of that, she was effortlessly sexy…just ask Mr. Sheffield!
This first outfit is a perfect representation of Fran’s general style and demeanor…cute as heck, flirty, and fun!

Look #2 — Funky Patterns and Bright Colors
Without a doubt, vibrant colors and funky patterns contributed to Nanny Fine’s unique personal style. On her Insta, Shan Brown noted that Fran’s adorable orange number was a “Morgan de Toi 90’s Does 60’s mod inspired orange floral top and skirt.” Unfortunately, my chances of actually locating this classic outfit were slim to none. So…Forever 21 would just have to do!
Little did I know that I’d find a very similar outfit online (all I had to do was tie the back to create a mini-dress)! I’m absolutely in love with this orange floral dress and how the photos came out! Definitely my favorite look of the bunch! The dress would have been intimidating to try on at the store, but I’m so glad I bought it for this post. I’ve already worn it out once and would totally recommend it for early fall–very trendy and pretty.
Just goes to show that Nanny Fine’s glamorous outfits will never go out of style!

Look #3 — Can’t forget about leopard prints!
Oh, how can we forget about Nanny Fine’s love for leopard prints? Even in episode one, she shows up for her interview with Mr. Sheffield in a mini skirt and jacket…featuring animal print! “She liked leopard prints because, you know, it’s kind of racy and sexy. And very Queens,” Drescher said during her interview with Today.
A huge part of Fran’s identity was being “the flashy girl from Flushing.” Maybe that’s why Nanny Fine is such an icon….she always remained true to herself!
Fran’s clothing choices symbolized her bold personality. In general, she’d typically pair leopard prints with black turtlenecks, jackets, or skirts. In this particular picture, she was wearing a “CD Greene animal print dress” with sequins and sleek black turtleneck.

Look #4 — Camo Head to Toe
Another popular pattern that Fran wore throughout the series was camouflage. By the way, I can totally see a Fashion Nova babe rocking this look–exhibit A! Camo seems to be making a comeback in general. While searching for outfits, Forever 21 and Windsor both had a variety of camouflage jackets and skirts.
Fran’s outfit was another design by Moschino, according to Brown’s Instagram. She accessorized the outfit with a beret, which adds such a fun touch to the look! I’ve never bought a beret before, but I found this cute one on Forever 21’s website.

Look #5 — Little Black Dress
Even though Fran’s style had that amazing “more-is-more, sexier-is-sexier, IDGAF” quality, she still sported a few classic looks from time to time! A perfect example was this little black dress by Herve Leger. After scrolling through a few comments on Brown’s Insta, I found out that Fran styled the dress with a Moschino red heart shaped purse. Of course, I had to search for the picture, and here’s the famous purse–thanks Pinterest!
Now the real question is…will I ever find a fabulous heart shaped purse of my own? Fashion Nova, I’m talking to you!

I hope that you enjoyed reading this post, lovelies! It’s definitely one of my most treasured blog posts. 💛Here’s to a possible Nanny reboot! Can you just imagine all of the stylish outfits Fran would wear in 2018? 💖This so needs to be a thing, like yesterday.
Have an amazing rest of your day! x
Do you/have you watched The Nanny? What’s your favorite episode? Also, which outfit recreation was your favorite?
I mean, I’ve never even heard of The Nanny (other than the British show which showcased rude af children, with parents driven to breaking point and the nanny sent in to help), but I love what both she and you wear.
As I said on the Insta post, I’m still loving the red top and checker skirt the most, though the camo and the leopard print are sitting on a close second! Great post love, as always 🙂 xx
Omg, I remember that show too!! I think they still have the clips of The Nanny on YouTube too!! Wonder if it’s still airing?? Lol!
Aww, thanks darling! You’re so sweet!! 💗 The red sweater + checkered skirt outfit was such a classic outfit on the show! They also had a lot of cute checkered skirt options on Forever 21’s site (and in store)! The 90’s are DEF back in style! Hehe! 💕x
Yeeeessss, Nunzia! I am living for this post. I freaking loved watching The Nanny & always loved her & her style! I think my favorite episode is when they go on that vacation!
You did such a good job recreating all of the looks! The camo one is my favorite. 😄
Hehehe thanks so much, Hunida!! 💛Omg, I remember that episode!! It was such a hilarious show, and brings back so many memories! 💕
Thanks, love! The camo jacket ended up being super comfortable, which was a plus lol! x
Which was your fave episode?! 😀
Omg, they’re all so good!! I think my favorite one is where Mr. Sheffield proposes to Fran! I thought the whole episode was hilarious and super cute 😂Although, I LOVED whenever Fran and her mom had scenes together. They were always so hysterical and cracked me up! 😂😂
YES!! Fran & her mom were the BEST!
OMG! i love love this girl! Everything looks so much like the 90s and my favorite of yours version is….aah all of it! ❤ you did a great job!
Thanks, darling!!! 💗So happy you liked the post and recreations! All the original outfits were so cute, iconic, and yep, definitely SUPER 90’s hehe! 💖 Fran always had the best style on the show! x

Thank you, hon!! 💛Look #2 definitely ended up being my fave out of all the photos! Plus, orange is such a fun color for fall!!
Ahhh, totally!! She was always so hilarious, bubbly, and true to herself! Love her character as well! 💖I need to buy the series on DVD or something, since it’s not on Netflix! I’d probably binge watch the entire series over again in a week lol!! x
Used to love The Nanny when I was a kid, I wasn’t born when it started airing either but I’ve seen most episodes 🙂 This is such an awesome post idea and your recreations are spot on! The black top under your leopard print dress is so 90s! I quite liked Fran’s fashion on the show 🙂
Aww, thanks, Chanelle!! 💛I kinda wanna wear the leopard dress with the turtle neck out somewhere lol! It always looked so fabulous on Fran! 💓I’m gonna have to wear it to a party or something one of these days! And it’s so interesting that we both weren’t even born yet, but know all about the show through reruns! 90s sitcoms were just great lol! x
Wear that outfit out and don’t forget to share a photo of it 😊 Reruns are great too!
SUPER cute idea! I haven’t seen this show in years. Nice blast from the past 🙂
Thanks so much, Andrea! 💗It’s been a while since the Nick at Nite days lol!! I wish they had The Nanny on Hulu or Netflix. :/ Who knows, maybe they can make a reboot on there hehe!! Fingers crossed! x
