Ever since I’ve been implementing little self care rituals throughout the day, I’ve noticed I’ve been much happier and more relaxed in general. My daily self care routine is pretty simplistic. However, it helps me recharge and reminds me to take a moment to just slow down. Read on for my complete self care routine!
Today, I’m catching up on work because we were off for the holiday! It’s been a nice couple of days. We went over to my aunt’s for another pool party on Wednesday and she had a barbecue. I’m more of a pasta girl myself, but my uncle made some really tasty burgers! YUM!
During the holiday, I focused a lot on self care throughout the week, spent time outside, and enjoyed hanging out with family.
I realized earlier this week that I’ve never shared my self care routine! I usually like to split up my routine throughout the day (mornings, evenings, and nights).
Before the start of my day, I try my best to wake up early, spend some time alone, and take in the peacefulness of mornings. After a long day, I’ll unwind during the evenings before bed.
My Daily Self Care Routine
Mornings
Start my morning off with coffee and a magazine or book.
Let me just start off by saying that I am not a morning person! My mom has always referred to me as the night owl of the family. I struggle with morning anxiety and notice that I’m generally happier at night, but having a routine in the morning has helped a lot! I’ve been waking up a little earlier so that I can enjoy slower mornings. I’ll usually grab coffee or tea, and sit with a magazine.
I’ve been reading a lot of fashion magazines, like Elle, Glamour, and Vogue. Kate McKinnon is on the cover of Glamour this month, and she’s just the best! I adore her sense of style and her impressions on SNL are hilarious!
Eat breakfast and make a smoothie! Don’t forget water!
After I’m done reading an article or two — and finished with my coffee — I’ll eat breakfast. Lately, I’ve been making cereal with fruit a lot, since it’s healthy and easy to prepare. On the weekends, we LOVE to make pancakes or french toast. The other day, I found this amazing peanut butter and banana breakfast smoothie on Pinterest and have been adding it to my breakfast.
Glam up a little…or not!
Some days, I love getting dressed up, wearing cute sundresses, and styling my hair! Other times, I just want to wear jeans and a tee. I don’t wear makeup everyday, but I’ll moisturize and put on sunscreen. That day, I wore a lacy white sundress and painted my nails!
Late Afternoons/Evenings
Take a walk outside.
After a long day, Alejandro and I will take a walk outside, whether it’s around the neighborhood or at the park. Even when we’re traveling or at our families, after dinner we’ll step out for some fresh air. My grandma’s house has the most beautiful scenery. Although I’m a city girl at heart and grew up in Chicago, I always feel best out in nature.
Cook a healthy dinner.
For dinner, I have been trying to cook a lot more, especially within the last couple of months. When Alejandro and I graduated college, we probably could burn cereal! I’m happy to say we’ve come a long way! During the holiday, my mom, Alejandro, and I made pasta al pomodoro and zucchini. It was delicious!
Journal, tidy up, and write.
Once things have wound down, I like to take time to prepare for the next day. I’m definitely a journal kind of girl! I’ll write a to-do list in my agenda and it helps me to stay organized. Afterwards, I’ll usually tidy up the apartment, vacuum, and wash the dishes.
During the evenings, I also brainstorm or write my blog posts. I’ll sit on the couch or go to Starbucks, listen to my Spotify playlist, and write/edit photos.
Nighttime
Bubble baths and candles.
I don’t take a bubble baths every night, but they’re definitely a treat to myself! I almost always light up a scented candle and let myself daydream. Sometimes, I like to listen to podcasts or play some music.
My go-to songs are Warm Whispers by Missy Higgins, Like a Star by Corinne Bailey Rae, Bloom by The Paper Kites, and Magnetic Field by Lights.
The other day, I bought a bath bomb (finally!) and Zoella’s Pretty Polished Sugar Scrub! I can’t wait to try both products out and take a relaxing bath this weekend!
Watch TV or play board games with Alejandro.
Before bed, Alejandro and I usually catch up on our Netflix shows. Within the past year, we’ve binge watched Love, Stranger Things, Easy and who knows how many other shows! I mentioned to y’all that right now, we’re watching New Girl. Already on Season 3!
Other times, we’ll play video games or board games. Our favorite boardgames are Life, Scrabble, and Sorry! There’s something so fun about playing boardgames before bed and it always makes me smile!
Listen to music and unwind before bed.
Wow, I just noticed how much I listen to music throughout the day! It has been one of my biggest self care rituals, even since high school! Before bed, I’ll browse Apple Music for new albums. Lately, I’ve also been revisiting old albums. One of the first albums I ever purchased on my own was Coco by Colbie Caillat.
This month, I’ve been playing songs from that album almost every night before bed, along with her more recent ones. “Bubbly” and “Magic“ are on repeat!
I hope that you enjoyed this post, lovelies! Have a great rest of your day and a beautiful weekend! x
What are some ways that you implement self-care throughout the day? What does your daily self care routine look like?
This was a lovely post , loved the fact that you dont apply makeup everyday.
💓
I love a solid ritual for evening. It helps me wind down from the day and gets me in the mood to have a good sleep!

Winding down before bed and having a routine is the best. 💖x Thanks so much for reading, Meredith!
Oh this sounds wonderful 😍 true self-care. I love it. I also like to read in the mornings, and for a while whilst travelling I started setting my alarm 25 minutes earlier so I could read in bed and it honestly made my day. I should get back into it. Honestly, you’re so inspirational with the self-care vibe. I know I personally don’t do enough when I’m not travelling, and I’m looking forward to implementing some of your ideas at home – including a bubble bath! Hope you’re well, hon! Your posts are always a pleasure 🙂 xx
Aww, Francesca!! Your sweet comments always make me smile. 💖Isn’t it amazing how even 25-30 min. can make such a difference? It’s the little things! I used to run out the door of my apartment in the mornings and I’m so much more relaxed now just from waking up a little earlier!
So glad that you liked the post! I’ve struggled with stress and anxiety for a really long time, and always just want to help others with these type of posts, so your comment means a lot to me. 💛I hope you’re doing well too, dear! It’s always nice to hear from you! x

Aww, thanks Sarah! Pasta al pomodoro has always been a fav of mine. 💖It’s surprisingly easy to make and really delicious! And lol!! I def didn’t trust myself or Alejandro in the kitchen before, but I think we’ve stepped up our cooking game since then! 😂
Music is one of my go to things, some days I don’t get to listen to it but I always feel better when I do! Board games are so fun too! I also enjoy painting my nails and watching YouTube videos can be quite calming, you can switch off for a short while and immerse yourself in another person’s life 🙂
Totally, I definitely feel the same way!! 💛 Music has such a calming effect, and it’s super cathartic to listen to a fave album or playlist when you’re feeling stressed. Ooh, yes watching YouTube is also great! I love watching vloggers, beauty gurus, etc. whenever I had a long day and just wanna unwind. xx
