Valentine’s Day is coming up soon! It’s the season of chocolates, roses, and heartfelt greeting cards. Who else looks forward to those goofy e-cards on Facebook? My faves are The Office themed ones, featuring Dwight and Jim! 💌 Sometimes, our busy schedules make it difficult to set aside time for self care. This Valentine’s day, don’t forget to show yourself love — read on for some simple and fun self-love ideas!
Growing up, I loved Valentine’s Day! Some of my best memories were waking up every year to an adorable gift basket from my mom. It was also so much fun celebrating at school with my classmates. Everyone was way too excited about paper cards and stickers to worry about math problems!
Back then, my family would always go out to dinner together. Before the day ended, my grandpa made sure to buy us all assorted chocolate–it was so sweet. This year, I’ll be spending my fourth Valentine’s Day with Alejandro. I’ve also learned that it’s just as important to make time for and treat myself too!
Valentine’s Day is about celebrating the ones you love, whether it’s your partner, bff, or family member! But what about showing yourself a little TLC? Treat yourself this Valentine’s day with these 29 self-love ideas! ❤️
29 Self-Love Ideas for Valentine’s Day
1. Give yourself a Valentine’s Day themed manicure.
What better way to pamper yourself than with a manicure? If you want to stick to the Valentine’s Day theme, go for pink or red nail polish. You can also add embellishments like hearts, flowers, or glitter! If pink isn’t your think, try yellow polish or rainbow nails instead–that’d be super fun!

2. Make chocolate covered strawberries.
Chocolate covered strawberries are yummy, but they can be hard to make sometimes. This easy and straightforward recipe by Alicia from Balancing Motherhood looks amazing. She even adds toppings like sprinkles and mini chocolate chips, which is adorable!
3. Sign up for a sip & paint class!
This would be a wonderful solo date idea or the perfect Valentine’s day activity with your besties!
4. Discover your self-love language.
Take some time to find out the best way to show love to yourself. When we think of love languages, we often associate them with romantic relationships. However, discovering your love language is also beneficial for self care!

An at home spa day is a great way to relieve stress from the week. Light a candle, take a bubble bath, file your nails, and enjoy a homemade face mask! Elle has some awesome spa-worthy face masks you can make on Valentine’s Day! My favorite is the “hydrate and nourish” face mask. All you need is honey, oats, and an avocado!

Maybe there’s a purse you’ve been eyeing for a while now. You could also be like me and looking for a few more graphic tees to add to your collection! It’s okay to splurge every now and again. As a Valentine’s Day gift to myself, I’m ordering this tee from Lights’ online store. Her merch is always stylish and cool!
Cute gifts for yourself:
8. Order takeout and watch your favorite Netflix series.
Laid back evenings are the best! Chill out with your favorite Netflix show and order some takeout for the night. I’m already getting hungry thinking about vegetable fried rice, orange chicken, and lo mein! 🍲
9. Listen to a new album in full.
Music is an awesome way to relax after a long week. Since Valentine’s Day happens to fall on a Friday, you can enjoy a peaceful evening with your favorite songs! Browse through Spotify for a new artist and listen to their album in full!
10. Read a few helpful self care blog posts.
Learning more about ways to care for yourself is a wonderful form of self love. Ever since I started writing my own self care blog posts, I’ve noticed an improvement in my self-confidence. It’s also been a lot easier for me to understand and manage my anxiety.
Aside from writing, I love reading other self care and mental health blogs. Self care looks different for everyone and it’s very personal. For this reason, it’s a good idea to read up on a variety of posts!
Some of my favorite self-care and mental health blogs:
11. Buy colorful flowers at the supermarket.
Brighten up your space with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. It doesn’t even have to be roses! Sunflowers would be a refreshing choice for February. That pop of yellow can add so much light your home! 🌻
12. Donate to a cause of your choice.
Helping others will make you feel fulfilled and happy. Research different charities and donate what you can. Also encourage the people around you to donate as well!
13. Make a thoughtful gift basket or self-care kit!
DIY a Valentine’s Day gift basket and deliver it to someone you love, whether it’s your mom, dad, grandparents, friend, or significant other! Fill the basket with things like chocolates, a gift card to their fave restaurant, puzzles, or a new phone case. You can even add a card or personalized note — it’ll be a sweet thought!
You can also make a self care kit for yourself and add items that make you feel calm and relaxed. It’s a nice way to take care of yourself on Valentine’s day! 💗
14. Unplug and practice mindfulness.
While the internet and social media is fun, sometimes it can be exhausting. You may feel fatigued by looking at a screen at work or being on your phone throughout the day. Take the evening to simply be in the moment. Do calming things like spending time nature (if you live in a warm place) or going for a relaxing drive!
15. Have a dance party in your kitchen!

24. Write down a list of positive affirmations.
Unfortunately, we don’t always speak kindly enough to ourselves. It’s crucial to talk to yourself as though you were speaking to a close friend or loved one. One way to help you do this is by reciting positive affirmations. Writing down affirmations can help you increase your confidence and brightens your day.

29. Keep self-care simple.
Lastly, if you’re feeling down, keep self care simple. Not every day is going to be wonderful — this is true even on a holiday.
I’ve had holidays (whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Halloween, or Christmas) that weren’t eventful or fun. Maybe I felt either low on energy, sad, or anxious. Down periods happen and it’s okay if you’re not feeling up to celebrating.
The most important thing is to just take care of yourself. That comes first! Do simple things that feel good. Take a hot shower, go for a walk, or listen to your favorite song.
Just know that everything is going to be okay and you will be happy again! 💓
I hope you enjoyed this post, lovelies! Have a wonderful day and Happy (early) Valentine’s Day! x
